Kitchen and home prices in Pakistan: what the data shows
Where does home and kitchen shopping in Pakistan reward comparing stores, and where is it a waste of time?

Home and kitchen is a category of two halves. One half is small consumables and utensils where the absolute saving from comparing stores is a few hundred rupees, and the other is appliances where it can be tens of thousands. Treating them the same is the mistake this guide is about. It rests on 1,440 listings Dhundo has classified as home, read from 25 stores.
Two halves in one number
Across a sample of 603 listings the midpoint is Rs 2,499, and eight in ten sit between Rs 522 and Rs 27,899. The distance between the midpoint and the top of that band is the appliance half of the category showing through: the typical listing is small and cheap, and the tail is refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners.
That shape has a practical reading. Below the midpoint, the time spent comparing stores usually costs more than it saves. Above the ninetieth percentile, comparing stores is the single highest-value thing you can do before buying, because a fixed percentage of a large number is a large number.
The measured cross-store gap
4 items in this sample turned up in more than one store under matching titles, with a typical gap of 27.4% between the cheapest and dearest.
A small number of matches is normal here and is worth understanding rather than glossing over. Home goods are frequently unbranded or house-branded, so two stores selling functionally identical items give them different names and no matcher can pair them. Appliances are the exception: they carry model numbers, they match well, and they are also where the money is.
What a listing price leaves out
Delivery is the biggest omission and it scales with weight, which is exactly backwards from what you want in this category. A cheaper washing machine that ships from another city can end up dearer than the local listing that looked worse, and no comparison page can see that until you enter an address at the store's checkout.
Installation is the second. Air conditioners and built-in appliances carry a fitting cost that some stores bundle and some do not, and a bundled listing legitimately costs more than an unbundled one for the same machine.
Warranty length is the third, and unlike the first two it is usually written in the title, so it is the one you can check from a comparison row.
How to use the category page
Use it to find storefronts, then search for the model. The home category page lists what has been classified so far, with the store beside each price, and that store list is the useful part: it surfaces retailers that a general search would bury.
For an appliance, search the model number exactly as it appears on the manufacturer's page. That is the query most likely to produce a genuine cross-store comparison in this category, because it is the one string every store copies verbatim.
Capacity and rating are where the money goes
Two appliances that look identical in a listing can differ by a capacity step or an energy rating, and both move the price by more than any cross-store gap measured here. A nine-kilogram washing machine and a seven-kilogram one from the same range are the same photograph, the same brand and a different product.
Inverter and non-inverter is the same story on air conditioners and refrigerators. The inverter unit lists dearer and runs cheaper, so a price comparison that ignores it is answering the wrong question - and the word is nearly always in the title, which makes it one of the few specification differences you can check without leaving the comparison.
Where a listing does not state capacity or rating at all, that absence is worth treating as information rather than as an oversight. In this corpus the listings that omit a specification are disproportionately the lower-specification units, because a store with the better number tends to put it in the title.
Bundles make two prices incomparable
Home and kitchen is full of bundles: a blender with three jars, a cookware set counted differently by two shops, an appliance sold with an installation kit. Each of those is a legitimate product and none of them is comparable to the bare item at face value.
Dhundo does not unbundle anything, because doing so would mean inventing a per-item price the store never quoted. What it does instead is show the store's own title beside the price, which is where the piece count lives. Reading it takes a second and removes most of the confusion in this category.
